Maloof, Sam (1916– ) furniture maker; born in Chino, Calif. After working in architectural drafting, graphic arts, and industrial design, he became an independent woodworker in the 1940s. A master of joinery, sculptural organic forms, and functional simplicity, he produced some 100 pieces a year from his Alta Loma, Calif., workshop. Beginning in 1970, he taught in the summers at the Penland School for Crafts in North Carolina. How to thank TFD for its existence?
