Robert Hooke (1635-1703) later used the microscope to document the existence of "little boxes," or cells, in vegetables and inspired the works of later histologists; but some of the greatest contributions to medical science came from Italian microscopist, Marcello Malpighi (1628-1694).
Marcello Malpighi (1628-1694), regarded by some as father of biological microscopy, developed tissue preparation techniques to study cellular components of organ systems (histology) in plants and animals.
