Malte-Brun, Conrad (kôn`räth mäl`tə-br
n', Fr. mältə-brôN`), 1775–1826, Danish geographer, b. Jutland but later settled in Paris; originally named Malthe Konrad Bruun. He is responsible for the descriptive, readable style that became characteristic of the French school of geography. He wrote an encyclopedic geography of the world, a geography of Poland, and a dictionary of geography. He was secretary of the French Society of Geography, as was his son, Victor Adolphe Malte-Brun, 1816–89, who also wrote extensively on geographical subjects. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
