Malter effect [′mäl·tər i‚fekt]
(solid-state physics) A phenomenon in which a metal with a nonconducting surface film has a large coefficient of secondary electron emission; this is particularly notable in aluminum whose surface has been oxidized and then coated with cesium oxide.
