Malyshev, Ivan Mikhailovich 

Born Aug. 28 (Sept. 9), 1889, in Verkhotur’e, in present-day Sverdlovsk Oblast; died June 22, 1918, in the stanitsa (large cossack village) of Tundush, near Zlatoust. Participant in the revolutionary movement and the Civil War of 1918-20 in the Urals. Member of the Communist Party from 1905. Son of a worker.

Malyshev was a teacher. In 1915 he became a member of the Ekaterinburg Committee of the RSDLP. From March 1917 he was chairman of the provisional committee of the RSDLP (Bolshevik) and deputy chairman of the soviet in Ekaterinburg (now Sverdlovsk). He was one of the first organizers of trade unions in the Urals. He was a delegate to the Sixth Party Congress. He took part in the establishment of Soviet power in Ekaterinburg. In 1918 he was oblast commissar of labor, chairman of the Ural’sk Oblast Committee of the Party, and a member of the Oblast Executive Committee of Soviets of the Urals. He was commissar of the Verkh-Isetsk armed workers’ detachment and of the staff in the struggle against the White Cossacks of A. I. Dutov; he was military commissar and then commander of the Zlatoust Group of Soviet Detachments, which operated against the White Czechs (May-June). He was captured by the White Guards and shot.
