Mamonovo

Mamonovo 

(until 1947, Khailigenbai’), a city in Bagrationov Raion, Kaliningrad Oblast, RSFSR, situated in the southwestern part of the oblast, near the Vistula Gulf. Railroad station 50 km southwest of Kaliningrad.

Mamonovo has a fish-canning combine. It was founded in 1301 and has been a city since 1951. It was named in honor of N. V. Mamonov, Hero of the Soviet Union, who died in battle on the approaches to East Prussia during the Great Patriotic War (1941-45).
