Mandel, Marvin

Mandel, Marvin (1920–  ) governor; born in Baltimore, Md. A Democratic lawyer, he served in the Maryland House of Representatives (1952–69), becoming Speaker in 1963. Replacing Spiro Agnew as governor (1969–77), he was an efficient administrator, but in 1975 he was indicted on federal corruption charges, serving 19 months in prison beginning in 1980. He worked in real estate development afterward.
