Nadezhda (Yakovlevna) , born Nadezhda Khazina. 1899--1980, Soviet writer, wife of Osip Mandelstam: noted for her memoirs Hope against Hope (1971) and Hope Abandoned (1973) describing life in Stalin's Russia 2. Osip (Emilyevich) . 1891--?1938, Soviet poet and writer, born in Warsaw; he was persecuted by Stalin and died in a labour camp.
