Mann, Margaret

Mann, Margaret (1873–1960) cataloguer; born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She taught library science at her alma mater, Chicago's Armour Institute, and was a cataloguer at the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh (1903–19). She organized and recatalogued the Engineering Society Library in New York City (1919–24) and taught at the Paris (France) Library School (1924–26). While teaching at the University of Michigan, she authored the first basic text for librarianship, Introduction to Cataloging and the Classification of Books (1930).
