Manresa (mänrā`sə), city (1990 pop. 65,818), Barcelona prov., NE Spain, in Catalonia, on the Cardoner River. It is an industrial center with textile, metallurgical, and glass industries. Of ancient origin, Manresa has a Roman bridge and a Gothic collegiate church. It is a place of pilgrimage because St. Ignatius of Loyola Ignatius of Loyola, Saint , 1491–1556, Spanish churchman, founder of the Jesuits (see Jesus, Society of), b. Manresa 

a city in northeastern Spain, in Catalonia, on the Cardoner River (tributary of the Llobregat). Population, 57,800 (1970). Manresa is an industrial satellite of Barcelona. The cotton textile industry is well developed. Other industries include metalworking and metallurgy.
