Menzel Bourguiba (mĕnzĕl` bərgē`bə) or Manzil Abu Ruqaybah (mănzĭl` äb` r'kībä`), formerly Ferryville, town (1994 pop. 47,521), N Tunisia, on Lake Bizerte. It was founded as a naval installation during the period of French rule. After Tunisia became independent (1956), it was renamed in honor of Habib Bourguiba Bourguiba, Habib , 1903–2000, Tunisian statesman, president of Tunisia (1957–87), b. Monastir. Early active in the Destour party, he was at first an advocate of close cooperation with France.

Menzel Bourguiba 

(formerly Ferryville), a city in northern Tunisia, in Bizerte governorate; located on the southern shore of Lake Bizerte. Population, 33,700 (1966). The city is a highway junction and has a railroad station. Menzel Bourguiba is a fast-growing industrial center. A metallurgical works (with an output of approximately 250,000 tons of steel a year) and metalworking industries are located there. Bizerte serves as the city’s port.
