Maqrizi, Taqi Al-Din Ahmad Ibn Ali Al-
Born 1364, in Cairo; died there, 1442. Egyptian historiographer of the Mameluke period. He was for a time a qadi, a muhtasib, and later a schoolteacher in Cairo and Damascus. Al-Maqrizi’s chief work, Al-Khitat, and its supplements contain diverse information about the history and geography of Egypt, including biographies of emirs and other famous people, and the history of the Fatimids.
