Maradi (märädē`), town (1988 pop. 112,965), S Niger, near the border with Nigeria. It is the administrative and commercial center for an agricultural region that specializes in peanut growing and goat raising. A major road connects Maradi with Kano Kano , city (1991 est. pop. 595,000), N Nigeria. It is the trade and shipping center for an agricultural region where cotton, cattle, and about half of Nigeria's peanuts are raised.

Maradi 

a town in Niger, on the Gada River (Niger basin), and the administrative center of the department of Maradi. Population, 27,000 (1969). Maradi is a highway junction. It is the trade center of an agricultural region in which there is live-stock breeding and peanuts, cassava, and cereals are grown. Peanut butter is produced in the town, and there are cottonginning and leather plants.
