Mardan

Mardan (mərdän`), city (1998 pop. 244,511), N Pakistan, on the Kalagarmi River. It is the site of a military cantonment and of a fort built (1854) by the British. An industrial center, it manufactures textiles, cigarettes, vegetable oil, and refined sugar.
Mardan 

a city in Pakistan in the North-West Frontier Province; population, 125,000 (1971). Mardan is located in the Peshawar Valley, an important agricultural region of the country (mainly wheat and sugarcane). It has a railroad station. A large sugar refinery is located there, and hand weaving is done.

Pakistani authorities have detained more than three thousands illegal Afghan immigrants and 50 prayer leaders from district Mardan and Swabi in North West Frontier Province.
PESHAWAR, November 12, 2009 (Balochistan Times): In a bid to facilitate farmers in obtaining loans for the purpose to boost agri-production under one window operation in Mardan and Swabi districts, the Chief Manager SBP BSC (Bank) Taslim Kazi along with Deputy Chief Manager Abid Hussain visited union councils Nawan Killi, Swabi and UC Charghulai in Mardan and monitored progress of the programme.
