Aslamazian, Mariam Arshakovna
Born Nov. 20 (Dec. 3), 1907, in the village of Bash-Shirak, near Leninakan. Soviet painter. People’s Artist of the Armenian SSR (1965). Member of the CPSU since 1946. In 1929, Aslamazian graduated from the Yerevan Art-Industrial Technicum, where she studied with S. Arakelian and S. Agadzhanian. In 1933 she graduated from the Leningrad Academy of Art, where she studied with K. N. Istomin and K. S. Petrov-Vodkin. Aslamazian is a representative of the Armenian school of decorative, flat still life (Armenian Still Life, 1955, and The Flowering Red Cactus, 1957—both in the Tret’iakov Gallery). She painted the following thematic paintings: The Return of the Hero, 1943; The Song of the Hero, 1944; and The Mother-Heroine, 1949—all in the Picture Gallery of Armenia in Yerevan.
