Peretiatkovich, Mar’ian Mar’ianovich
Born Aug. 23 (Sept. 4), 1872, on the estate Usichi, in Volyn’ Province; died May 22 (June 4), 1916, in Kiev. Russian architect. From 1901 to 1906, Peretiatkovich studied with L. N. Benois at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, of which he became a member in 1912. Peretiatkovich’s work, in the neoclassicist style of the early 20th century, was characterized by an exaggerated monumentalization of forms, borrowed primarily from Renaissance (the former Vavel’berg bank in Leningrad, 1912) and Russian Empire architecture (the State Bank in Rostov-on-Don, 1912–14).
