Maribor (mä`rĭbôr), Ger. Marburg, city (1991 pop. 103,961), in Slovenia, on the Drava River. It is a heavy industrial center with chemical, engineering, and electrical industries. Known as early as the 12th cent., it was an important city of Styria Styria (stĭr`ēə), Ger.

 until its transfer (1919) to Yugoslavia and incorporation into the constituent republic of Slovenia. The city has a 12th-century Gothic cathedral, a 15th-century castle, and a fine Renaissance town hall.
