an island in the E Caribbean southeast of Guadeloupe, of which it is a dependency. Chief town: Grand Bourg. Pop.: 13 463 (1990). Area: 155 sq. km (60 sq. miles)

We get a big slice of Kurt Weill, including the ever-popular, let's-all-be-sad "Chant de Bilbao" and "Surabaya Johnny" from Happy End, plus extracts from L'opera de quat' sous (The Threepenny Opera in French) and Marie Galante -- not about the Caribbean island, but about a good-hearted prostitute, heroine of the 1934 musical of the same name.
Yves Abel in the pit, performed the title role in the North American premiere of Kurt Weill's Marie Galante in New York Nov.
The Amaudo Hotel is a very small hotel, almost a Caribbean Inn with only six very smart rooms, each of which has terraces overlooking the sea, with really great views of the islands of Marie Galante, and Iles des Saintes, and also Dominica.
