an institution of the Hydrometeorological Service of the USSR which, in addition to meteorological observations, conducts observations of the level, temperature, salinity, and condition of the sea (turbulence, ice cover, and the like). In addition to conducting shore-based observations, the large marine hydrometeorological stations study hydrometeorological conditions in the offshore zone (100–200 km) using specially equipped vessels.
