Markha

Markha 

a river in the Yakut ASSR, a left tributary of the Viliui (Lena Basin). Length, 1,181 km; basin area, 99,000 sq km. It originates on the eastern Viliui Plateau and is fed by snow and rain. High water in spring gives way to flooding in summer and fall; in winter the water is very shallow, and the river freezes for up to 150 days in the lower course and 208 days in the upper course. The average flow is 405 cu m per sec, with a maximum of 7,630 cu m per sec. The Markha freezes in late September or early October, thawing in late May or early June. The largest right tributary is the Morkoka. It is navigable from the mouth to the Morkoka River. There are diamond deposits in the basin.

It flows through six small lakes in the upper course and meanders in the lower course. It is fed primarily by snow. High water is from May to June; average discharge near the mouth is 20.8 cu m per sec. The Markha freezes in October and thaws in May. The largest right tributary is the Namyldzhylakh.
