Marquard, (Richard William) “Rube” (1889–1980) baseball pitcher; born in Cleveland, Ohio. A star left-hander during his 18-year career (1908–25), mostly with the New York Giants, he won a record 19 straight games on his way to winning 26 games in 1912. He was elected to baseball's Hall of Fame in 1971.
