The Maya had a mathematical system more advanced than anything known in Europe at that time, and they developed (or inherited) a calendar far more accurate than any calendar of the Old World. While thinkers like Leibniz already devised a mathematical system of language representation and translation as early as in late 17th century, and even Descartes sketched out what he called a "universal language" in form of mathematical expressions (Couturat 2002), we can go back as far as 1661 to trace one of the first fully developed attempts to work out a mathematical model for translation citation for information and quote. Each of these sub-concepts can be further broken down into subordinate concepts that build up the mathematical system related to solving linear equations. |
