Matheson, Scott Milne (1929– ) governor; born in Chicago. A Utah lawyer, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad (1958–76), becoming solicitor general in 1972. As Democratic governor of Utah (1977–85), he led a coalition of western governors who demanded involvement in federal planning for land use, particularly water conservation, energy development, and missile placement. He returned to practicing law afterward. |
