Location: 9 miles east of Swan Quarter, North Carolina. Facilities: Visitor contact station, viewing sites, observation towers, hiking trails (under development), auto tour route, boat ramps. Activities: Boating, canoeing, fishing, crabbing, hunting, hiking, educational programs. Special Features: Mattamuskeet lies in the middle of the Atlantic Flyway and provides a valuable wintering area for thousands of geese and 22 species of ducks. Habitats: 50,180 acres total: Lake Mattamuskeet encompasses approximately 40,000 acres, and the remainder is marsh, timber, and croplands. Access: Year round during daylight hours.
