Matthew, William Diller (1871–1930) paleontologist; born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. He was on the staff of the American Museum of Natural History (1895–1927); among his major contributions to the mammalian paleontology of Asia and North America was his theory of the northern origin of the mammalian orders.
