Zhivotov, Matvei Nazarovich
Born Aug. 12 (24), 1884, in the village of Donets, in present-day Livny Raion, Orel Oblast; died Nov. 27, 1964, in Moscow. Active in the revolutionary movement. Soviet party and economic figure. Became a member of the Communist Party in 1904. The son of a peasant. Zhivotov was a worker. He conducted party work in the Ukraine, Vitebsk Province, and St. Petersburg and was frequently arrested. After the February Revolution of 1917 he was a member of the second municipal district soviet in Petrograd. In June 1917 he became chairman of the central council of shop committees in Petrograd. He took part in the preparation and execution of the October armed uprising in Petrograd and was a member of the Petrograd military revolutionary committee. Zhivotov was a delegate to the Second Congress of Soviets. In 1918 he was engaged in political work in the Red Army on the Southern Front. He became a member of the Presidium of the Ukrainian Sovnarkhoz (Council of the Economy) in 1920. From 1923 he served in Moscow as an economic executive. He became a personal pensioner in 1949.
