Matvei Petrovich Bronshtein

Bronshtein, Matvei Petrovich 

Born Nov. 19 (Dec. 2), 1906; died Feb. 18, 1938. Soviet physicist. Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences (1935).

Upon graduating from Leningrad University in 1930, Bronshtein worked at the Leningrad Institute of Physics and Technology. He was a professor at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute and the Leningrad State University. His major works are in the fields of the physics of semiconductors, gravitation theory, atomic physics, and astrophysics. He also wrote a series of popular-scientific books.
