Maurer, Alfred (Henry) (1868–1932) painter; born in New York City. He worked as a lithographer, traveled to Paris (1897), and was influenced by Matisse. He returned to New York and worked in an expressionistic and cubistic style, as seen in Still Life with Doily (c. 1930). He is considered one of the first modernists working in America.
