Born Feb. 11, 1791, in Constantinople; died Aug. 18, 1865, in Aegina (Aiyena). Greek statesman and politician. Born into a Phanariot family.

Mavrokordatos was involved in the Greek national liberation revolution of 1821-29; he headed the conservative wing of the insurgents. The National Assembly in Epidavra (January 1822) elected him president of the executive branch, a post he held until April 1823.
