Maybank, Burnett Rhett (1899–1954) governor, U.S. senator; born in Charleston, S.C. He was elected governor of South Carolina (Dem., 1939–41) and U.S. Senator (1941–54). As chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, he was interested in public housing and education issues.
