Mayon Volcano

 or Mount Mayon

Active volcano, southeastern Luzon, Philippines. One of the world's most perfect volcanic cones, it has a base 80 mi (130 km) in circumference and rises to 8,077 ft (2,462 m). It is popular with climbers and campers and is the centre of Mayon Volcano National Park, which occupies 21 sq mi (55 sq km). It has erupted more than 30 times since 1616; an eruption in 1993 killed 75 people. Its most destructive eruption was in 1814, when the town of Cagsawa was buried.

This Southeast Asian country has the Chocolate Hills in Bohol, Hundred Islands in Pangasinan, the Mayon Volcano in Albay which is famous for its perfect cone shape, the Royal City in Davao just to mention a few.
A pre-dawn explosion at the Mayon volcano covered nine nearby villages, home to about 22,000 people, with a thin carpet of grey ash, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
In nearby Albay province, nearly 45,000 villagers were moved into school shelters from their houses at the foot of the Mayon volcano amid fears of possible mudslides, he said.
