Mazarovich, Aleksandr

    0.01 sec.
Mazarovich, Aleksandr Nikolaevich

Born Nov. 29 (Dec. 11), 1886, in St. Petersburg; died Mar. 26, 1950, in Moscow. Soviet geologist and hydrogeologist.

Mazarovich graduated from Moscow University in 1912 and became a professor there in 1931. In 1932 he began serving as head of the subdepartment of geology; later (from 1943) he headed the subdepartment of historical geology, and from 1949 he was head of the subdepartment of historical and regional geology. He gave lectures in basic courses—historical geology, geology of the USSR, and geology of Quaternary deposits. He worked out a general schema of the stratigraphy of the red beds of the Upper Permian and substantiated the identification of equivalents of the Lower Triassic in the eastern part of the Eastern European Platform. He drew more precise stratigraphic boundaries for the Jurassic, Cretaceous, Neocene, and Quaternary deposits of the Volga and Transvolga regions and traced their facies changes. He compiled a detailed description of the displacements of the Don-Medveditsa swell.
