Mazmanian, Mikhail Davidovich
Born Nov. 9 (21), 1899, in Tbilisi; died Oct. 29, 1971, in Yerevan. Soviet architect. Honored Art Worker of the Armenian SSR (1959). Honored Architect of the Armenian SSR (1968). Mazmanian studied at the Moscow State Higher Art and Technical Studios and State Higher Institute of Art and Technology from 1921 to 1929. Among his works, executed with others, are the Builders’ Club (1929-30), a department store (1932-37), the housing complex of the S. M. Kirov Synthetic Rubber Combine (1932), the House of Books (1935-40), and the Shaumian residential district (1955-65)—all located in Yerevan—and the children’s music school in Noril’sk (1958). He helped create the general plans for Kafan (1930), Kirovakan (1934-37), Leninakan (1932-37), Noril’sk (1939-54), Dudinka (1949-54), and Yerevan (1955-69). The author of articles on the theory and history of Armenian architecture, Mazmanian was awarded two orders and various medals. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
