Mazsalaca 

a city in Valmiera Raion, Latvian SSR. It is situated on the Salaca River (which empties into the Gulf of Riga), 23 km west of the Rujiena railroad station and 166 km southeast of Riga. There is production of linen fabrics, as well as a factory producing transportation equipment and a dairy.

Dramatic video of a fireball at the bottom of an impact crater on farmland outside the town of Mazsalaca in Latvia was shown all over the world, taken by a group of film students who said that they had heard the meteor strike.
