Mazurok, Iurii Antonovich 

Born July 8, 1931, in Kraśnik, in the województwo (province) of Lublin, Poland. Soviet Russian baritone. People’s Artist of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1968.

Mazurok graduated from the L’vov Polytechnic Institute in 1955 and from the Moscow Conservatory, where he had studied voice under A. S. Sveshnikova, in I960. In 1963 he completed graduate work at the conservatory and became a soloist at the Bolshoi Theater of the USSR. Mazurok has sung the roles of Onegin, Eletskii, and Robert in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, The Queen of Spades, and lolanthe, respectively. His other roles have included Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca, di Luna in Verdi’s II Trovatore, Figaro in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, and Andrei Bolkonskii in Prokofiev’s War and Peace. He has performed abroad.

Mazurok received first prize at the International Vocal Competition Festival in Montreal in 1967. He has also received prizes in other international competitions and in all-Union competitions. Mazurok has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
