McCarthy Beach State Park Location: From the town of Hibbing, take US 169 north to County Road 5, then 16 miles to the park. Facilities: 86 drive-in campsites (18 with electrical hookups), showers (é), flush toilets (é), 3 walk-in campsites, group camp, picnic area, enclosed picnic shelter, hiking trails (18 miles), horse trails (12 miles), mountain bike trails (17 miles), ski trails (9 miles), snowmobile trails (12 miles), swimming beach, horseshoe pits, fishing pier (é), boat launch, boat and canoe rentals, interpretive exhibits, gift shop. Activities: Camping, swimming, lake fishing, boating, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing. Special Features: The sandy beach on Sturgeon Lake has been rated one of the top 17 beaches in North America by <i>Highways Magazine</i>. Park also includes Side Lake and the four connected lakes of the Sturgeon chain.
