In south-central OK, south of Oklahoma City; organized Nov 16, 1907 from Chickasaw lands. Name Origin: For Charles M. McClain, a member of the OK Constitutional Convention (1906-07).

Area (sq mi): 580.13 (land 569.67; water 10.46). Pop per sq mi: 52.80.
Pop 2005: 30,096. State rank: 33. Pop change: 2000-20005 8.50%; 1990-2000 21.70%. Pop 2000: 27,740 (White 85.30%; Black or African American 0.70%; Hispanic or Latino 4.90%; Asian 0.20%; Other 11.80%). Foreign born: 2.60%. Median age: 36.90.
Income 2000: per capita $18,158; median household $37,275; Pop below poverty level: 10.50%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $22,057-$24,062.
