McClure, Samuel S. (Sidney) (1857–1949) editor, publisher; born in County Antrim, Ireland. Emigrating in 1866, he established one of the earliest U.S. newspaper syndicates in 1884 and in 1893 founded McClure's magazine, which he made especially successful with the introduction of muckraking journalism after the turn of the century. From 1897 to 1899 he was a partner with Frank Nelson Doubleday in a book publishing firm.
