McDuffie, John (1883–1950) U.S. representative; born in River Ridge, Ala. Tutored at home, he was a lawyer (1908–19) and congressman (Dem., Ala.; 1919–35), serving as minority and majority whip before becoming U.S. district court judge in Alabama (1935–50).
