He became psychiatrist-in-chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital (1975) and director of the Blades Center for Clinical Practice and Research in Alcoholism (1992). An authority on biological bases of behavior, his teaching and research have centered on biopsychology and the mind-brain problem.
