McKay, Clarence Hungerford

McKay, Clarence Hungerford (1874–1938) businessman, philanthropist; born in San Francisco (son of John W. McKay). He studied in Paris and graduated from Beaumont College, England (1892). He entered his father's business and worked on completing an international telegraph and cable system. He donated large sums of money to various projects, was a famous host at his home in Roslyn, Long Island, and collected medieval armor. He lost his fortune in the stock market crash of 1929.
