In east-central TX, south of Fort Worth; organized Jan 22, 1850 from Milam, Robertson, and Navarro counties. Name Origin: For Neil McLennan (1777-1867), surveyor and pioneer.

Area (sq mi): 1060.23 (land 1041.88; water 18.34). Pop per sq mi: 215.60.
Pop 2005: 224,668. State rank: 21. Pop change: 2000-20005 5.20%; 1990-2000 12.90%. Pop 2000: 213,517 (White 64.60%; Black or African American 15.20%; Hispanic or Latino 17.90%; Asian 1.10%; Other 11.50%). Foreign born: 6.10%. Median age: 31.90.
Income 2000: per capita $17,174; median household $33,560; Pop below poverty level: 17.60%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $22,716-$24,007.
Unemployment 2004: 5.30%. Change from 2000: 1.40%. Median travel time to work: 20.00 minutes. Working outside county of residence: 6.80%.

    Dubya is among 600 who have been summoned to report to court on Monday in McLennan County, Texas, where his 1600acre Crawford ranch is located.
