mechatronics (MECHAnics elecTRONICS) The combination of mechanical and electronic systems. Embracing robotics, industrial control systems and human interfaces in numerous disciplines, mechatronics is a major step beyond "electromechanical," in which only electricity is required. Mechatronic systems employ microprocessors and software as well as special-purpose electronics. The subhead of CMP's Mechatropolis Web site (www.mechatropolis.com) says "where mechanical and electronic engineering connect." See electromechanical.mechatronics [‚mek·ə′trän·iks] (engineering) A branch of engineering that incorporates the ideas of mechanical and electronic engineering into a whole, and, in particular, covers those areas of engineering concerned with the increasing integration of mechanical, electronic, and software engineering into a production process. No references found | 95 Hardcover Nano- and microscience, engineering, technology, and medicine series TJ163 Covering fundamentals of mechatronic and electromechanical systems widely used in industrial, transportation, and power systems, this text examines emerging software and hardware, introduces theory, examines the design of high-performance systems, and helps develop problem-solving skills in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and electronics. Expected to kick off early in 2010, the new program calls for Siemens-certified instructors to provide technical education and skills training to prepare students for undergraduate studies in applied engineering and science leading to an internationally recognized Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification. He acquired a High National Diploma in Mechatronic from Abertay University in Dundee, Scotland, and attended numerous training courses in Bahrain and abroad. |
