Medinipur

Medinipur (mĕdĭn`ĭpr'), formerly Midnapore (mĭd`nəpûr'), town (1991 pop. 125,498), West Bengal state, E India, on the Kasai River. It is a district administrative center and has textile and chemical manufactures. A canal links Medinipur with Kolkata (Calcutta).
