Mediterranean Seas
seas that extend deeply into the land and connect with the ocean by one or several straits. Mediterranean seas include intracontinental (inland) seas, which lie within a single continent (for example, the Baltic Sea), and intercontinental seas, which lie between two continents (for example, the Mediterranean and Red seas). Mediterranean seas are more isolated than other seas. As a result, their hydrological regime, which is significantly influenced by the surrounding land, is more distinctive.
