Medium-density fiberboard

Medium-density fiberboard

(MDF)
An engineered wood product made of softwood fibers, wax, and resin and formed into panels with the use of heat and pressure. Similar to particleboard, MDF has finer texture, offering more precise finishing. Most MDF is made with formaldehyde-emitting urea-formaldehyde binders, which can contribute to poor indoor air quality.

medium-density fiberboard, medium-density hardboard

Fiberboard having a density of from 30 to 50 lb per cu ft (480 to 800 kg per cu m); used for structural building applications, coreboards, etc.
