Medjerda
a river in North Africa, in Algeria and Tunisia. Length, 460 km; basin area, 22,000 sq km. It flows out of the eastern spurs of the Tell Atlas (Medjerda Mountains) and into the Gulf of Tunis, forming a delta. The Medjerda is noted for the sharp fluctuations in its discharge: from 3-4 cu m per sec in summer to 1,500-2,500 cu m per sec and even 13,000 cu m per sec after strong winter rains. There are reservoirs used for irrigation on the Medjerda. The river valley is an important Tunisian agricultural region. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
