Mellette, Arthur Calvin (1842–96) governor; born in Henry County, Ind. A Republican lawyer, he ran the Muncie Times and served in the Indiana legislature (1872–73). Moving to the Dakota Territory, he served on the constitutional convention (1883), establishing state budget limits.
