Melo

Melo 

a city in northeastern Uruguay; the capital of the department of Cerro Largo. Population, 33,700 (1963). It is connected with the city of Montevideo by railroad and highway. Melo is the center of an agricultural region and has trade in hides, wool, grains, and livestock. It was founded in 1795.
