Menderes (mĕndĕrĕs`), name of several rivers in Turkey. The Büyük Menderes is the ancient Maeander Maeander , ancient name of the Büyük Menderes River, c.250 mi (400 km) long, W Turkey. It rises in three branches W of Afyonkarahisar and flows generally W into the Aegean Sea. Its valley is extremely fertile.
..... Click the link for more information. ; the Küçük Menderes is the ancient Scamander Scamander , ancient name of the Küçük Menderes River, c.60 mi (95 km) long, NW Turkey. It flows W and NW from the Kaz Daği through the Troas into the Mediterranean Sea. It is frequently mentioned in the Iliad.

Menderes
1. a river in SW Turkey flowing southwest, then west to the Aegean. Length: about 386 km (240 miles)
2. a river in NW Turkey flowing west and northwest to the Dardanelles. Length: 104 km (65 miles)
